Our Timeline Overview

For over four decades, Action for Child Protection has worked to serve child welfare agencies throughout the country. We have worked with over 45 state, tribal, and territory public child welfare agencies, helping them to make quality child welfare practice possible. Join us as we continue to grow and expand our array of services.

1984

Action for Child Protection was created as a non-profit organization providing technical assistance services to child welfare agencies.

1986

The Safe Assessment and Family Evaluation (SAFE) Model was developed in partnership with a project funded by the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation.

2009

Action for Child Protection begins to serve as the National Resource Center for Child Protective Services.

2009

Action for Child Protection published “Child Safety: A Guide for Judges and Attorneys” in partnership with the American Bar Association.

2011

SAFE Model is designated as a Promising Practice by the Children’s Bureau.

2019

Action for Child Protection initiates a research agenda for the SAFE Model to better align with the Family First Prevention Services Act implementation.

2023

SAFE@Home was designated as a program with Promising Research Evidence by the California Evidenced-Based Clearinghouse for Child.
